What is SCORE?


SCORE, for the life of your business, is a non-profit association and a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.  SCORE is dedicated to entrepreneurial education and the formation, growth, and success in starting and maintaining a small businesses.  Members are trained to serve as counselors, advisors, and mentors to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners.  SCORE was formed in 1964 and over 10 million Americans have utilized SCORE services.  This website is Chapter 476 and is the Staten Island branch of the National organization.

How is SCORE Staffed?

SCORE volunteers serve as mentors.  Working and retired executives and business owners donate their time and expertise as volunteer business counselors and provide confidential counseling and mentoring free of charge.  SCORE volunteers provide expertise in virtually every area of business management.  To help SCORE assign proper counselors, a national skills bank is utilized to help identify the best mentors for its clients. SCORE's mentors, comprised of active and retired business men and women, provide clients with free and confidential business counseling. Counseling can be conducted at the client's place of business, at our chapter headquarters, by telephone or via email

SCORE mentors and representatives from the local business community conduct a variety of regularly scheduled, low-cost educational workshops that provide valuable information and techniques necessary for establishing and managing a successful business.
